Shirts Across America... moving families out of FEMA trailers one family at a time.

Since August 2005, we have partnered with several groups to help people impacted by Hurricane Katrina throughout the Gulf Coast region.  We are proud to have worked with community and grass roots entities who have labored tirelessly to rebuild Mississippi and New Orleans.  It is because of them we at Shirts Across America are so focused to continuing the mission to move one family out of FEMA trailers at a time.

It is with great excitement Shirts Across America announces our new relationship with the St. Bernard Project in New Orleans for 2009.  Last May, we made a commitment to continue our rebuilding efforts and learned of this incredible group through research.  The St. Bernard Project has moved over 170 families home since the disaster, and has received attention from every major news source in the country.

More importantly, they are changing peoples lives every single day and our group is proud to be working with them.  We begin this relationship the weekend of January 17th as we become a Title Sponsor of “Rebuild the Dream”.  “Rebuild the Dream” was created to give people an opportunity to act by rebuilding two homes in honor of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and is a symbol of the historic nature of the Inauguration of President Barack Obama on Tuesday, January 20, 2009.  You can follow the project by watching CNN and MTV throughout the day on Tuesday, January 20th.

Shirts Across America is proud to contribute the proceeds from our fundraising efforts to this great weekend and project.  We know the people of Mississippi and New Orleans deserve nothing but the best and we will continue to reach out to them.  For more information on “Rebuild the Dream”, please view MTV’s press release here or visit the St. Bernard Project web site.

On April 12, 2009, Shirts Across America will be sending a group of 40 high school students, college students and adults from Seattle to help rebuild with the St. Bernard Project.  Our hope is that you too can make a commitment and take a trip to New Orleans sometime during the next year.  If your schedule doesn’t allow you to, please consider purchasing a shirt from us as ALL proceeds go directly to materials needed to build the homes we are working on.

So grab your new shirt and wear it.  Wear it often!  If someone asks you the meaning of Change Builds or 4.T.F. or Hope Floats, tell them about the effort to help families through this web site. Soon, we'll post information and stories about families we are helping.

Shirts Across America is a non-profit organization dedicated to moving families out of FEMA trailers one family at a time in the Gulf Coast Region.

In January 2007, several high school students started the Hope Floats T-shirt campaign. Over 500 shirts were sold around Seattle and Washington state high schools.

Since the need in Mississippi and New Orleans is ongoing, the campaign recruited world renown Gospel Music Legend Pat Wright to help get the word out.

Sure everybody knows Pat was the ONLY person to sing at Jimi Hendrix's funeral. Yes, everyone knows that she has performed and/or recorded with everyone from Ray Charles, The Judds, etc., etc., to Dave Matthews. Why would Pat jump on board? Because the people of the Gulf Coast feel forgotten. Families of 3, 4 and 5 people are stuck in 400 sq. ft. FEMA trailers.

Pat and the students have received media attention for their efforts from the Seattle Times, NBC/King 5 News, and KOMO Radio. Pastor Wright was also named "Person of the Week" by ABC World News Tonight. DirectTV even filmed a benefit concert Shirts Across America put on this past summer.

In 2008, our focus is on the Bryant family of Gulfport, Mississippi.  The family of four wants to get rid of their FEMA trailer and to move back into their home.  You can make this happen.  We'll supply the labor as we arrive in late March to work on the Bryant's home.

Shirts Across America is made possible by people like you.  Families feel forgotten - and this is a simple way to really make a difference.  Help move the Bryant family home by buying a shirt or making a donation.
